Meet Billu. She is the most docile cat i have ever met. She lives in my college. She used to be healthy. One day while feeding her bread, she tried to grab the food in my hand and scratched me by mistake. I took 5 shots, but that did not make me start hating her.
Some loved her, some were afraid of her and some just plain hated her. Because they hate cats. I dont know why.
Then winter came... I saw she had gotten into a fight with the other cats and he nose was wounded. It was swollen, bleeding, and she had a cold too.
She started getting thin and weak. She even looked sick I kept feeding her.
One day i went to my college principal and asked her to call CSPCA so they could come and take her and treat her. Billu should get a chance to live. The principal called them but they said they only do treatment and cant keep Billu.
You see, most animal hospitals in India, if they are charitable, they run in losses since people dont give a shit about animals. They spend money on everything else but will not donate some to charity. And the hospitals that are doing well, charge 10,000 bucks for a cat.
So, i felt like i was fighting a losing war. Until one day I saw this girl in my college putting antibiotic powder on Billu's nose. She even got a basket along. Said she'd take Billu to the doctor.
I didnt follow up on her to ask her what the doctor did or said, but I saw hope. That at least someone out there...was just like me Or maybe even better.
Billu, like many others out there, are helpless. She cant walk to her doctor. But you can take her to one.
